Cómo pelear en Gakuran
El combate en Gakuran va de timing, no de machacar botones. Cuando entiendas el bucle parry → guardbreak → castigo, empezarás a ganar peleas del patio con constancia.
Combat in Gakuran rewards timing and reads over raw speed. Once you understand the parry → guardbreak → punish loop, you'll start winning schoolyard fights consistently — even against players with "better" fighting styles.
First, make sure you know the controls. Then layer in the tactics below.
The core combat loop
Every Gakuran fight cycles through three tools:
- Light attacks — your pressure. Quick, combo-able, low damage each.
- Parry — negates incoming light attacks and opens a counter window.
- Guardbreak — cracks a blocking opponent, guaranteeing a punish.
The flow in practice:
Pressure with lights → they parry or block → if they block, guardbreak → land your heavy (M2) for big damage.
Parry timing
Parry is the skill that carries you. The idea: right as the opponent's light attack is about to land, input your parry to negate it and stagger them briefly.
- Don't spam parry — it has recovery. Whiffing a parry leaves you open.
- Watch their animation, not their character — learn the wind-up of common light strings.
- Parry → light combo is your bread-and-butter punish when you read an attack.
Guardbreak and the heavy punish
When an opponent turtles behind their block, lights do nothing. That's what guardbreak is for:
- They block your lights.
- You guardbreak to break their guard (brief stagger).
- You land a heavy (M2) — your highest single-hit damage.
Against aggressive players who never block, you may never need guardbreak. Against defensive players, it's how you actually deal damage.
Fighting styles and how they change combat
Your style changes the feel and the optimal plan. A few stand out:
- Boxing (S-tier) — its M2 is uninterruptible, so you can throw heavies through their lights. Best overall for aggressive play. Full breakdown: Boxing.
- Wrestling (S-tier) — built around grabs and guardbreak pressure; great against blockers. See Wrestling.
- Capoeira / Karate (A-tier) — mobile / balanced; strong if you prefer a counter-punch style.
See the full tier list for the rest.
Spacing and movement
- Hold Shift to close or create distance quickly.
- Don't stand in range of their M2 while your parry is on cooldown.
- Bait attacks by stepping in and out of range, then punish the whiff.
Common combat mistakes
- Mashing lights — predictable strings get parried instantly.
- Parrying on reaction to everything — recovery gets you opened up.
- Forgetting guardbreak — you'll chip a blocker forever and never kill them.
- Heavy (M2) without a setup — slow and punishable unless your style makes it safe (e.g. Boxing).
